We have recently successfully tested a multi-lingual, multiplatform client/server app (IOS and Android) for a client on the following devices selected by the client among a fairly large list of available devices.
- ACER Iconia Tab A700, Android 4.0.4
- Apple iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.0
- ACER Iconia Tab A700, Android 4.0.4
- Google Nexus 7, Android 4.2.2
- Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717, Android 4.0.3
- ACER Iconia Tab A700, Android 4.0.4
The client tried to develop the same app on both Android and iOS platforms and all devices but the test showed that the code needed to be changed in order to choose to display either the small or the long strings depending on the screen resolution.
indeed certain mobile devices, such as the iPhone 4, have a screen resolution that is much smaller than that of an average smart phone or tablet. For the purposes of localization, we suggest developing a number of duplicate strings to have a short and long version of the strings to choose from depending on the target device.
